Offline

Introduction

This tool is accessible to registered users only. It allows using the giscuit mobile version without an active internet connection. It is usefull for working with data somewhere in the field using a handheld device. This module supports downloading vector or raster layers, using mobile map tools to work with data and uploading it back to the server at a later time.

Not all tools are available Offline. Tools like Routing, Home, Quick search, Reports will be removed from the tools bar when offline mode is activated.

Download

Zoom to the portion of the map you want to work with offline. Click on the Offline() tool. A list with available layers will appear. Select the layers you want to download by clicking on them. Below the layers list is a Maximum download scale dropdown which is used to limit the raster layer download from the current scale until the one selected from the dropdown. Click the Download button to start downloading data. After the data is downloaded a number will be displayed to the right of the layer name indicating how many features (for vector layer) or how many tiles (for raster layer) were downloaded. Click on Go offline button above the layers list to go in offline mode. The downloaded layers should be displayed on the map.

Upload

After you have modified data while being offline and want to upload it to the server, click on the Offline() tool. Click Go online button to try and connect to the server. If an internet connection is available the offline data will automatically start synchronization with the server. This includes uploading new data, changing the updated data and layer settings. After synchronization is complete a corresponding message will appear. It can be a success message in case the data was synchronized successfully, or a message informing that there were conflicts while synchronizing data.

Conflicts usually appear when the uploaded feature was already modified online since it was downloaded or if it has invalid attributes or geometry. To see the conflicting features go in offline mode a click on the Offline() tool. A list will be displayed with error messages describing the cause of the conflict. Click on the entry. If the feature is invalid it will be displayed on the map (in case the geometry is invalid) or the attributes form will be displayed (in case the attributes are invalid). If the feature was modified online a dialog will appear with the following options:

  • Show results on map - display the feature on the map.
  • Commit my version - your uploading feature will overwrite the current online version.
  • Discard my version - your uploading feature will be overwritten by the current online version, leaving the online version of the feature unmodified.
  • Leave unresolved - this action will do nothing.

When the conflicts are resolved click the Go online button to start resynchronizing data.
